Hand painted wardrobe
When I first viewed this project the doors and carcasses themselves, albeit it in a faded cream colour where in good condition. Instead of going down the unnecessary route of ripping out the old wardrobes and draws, only to replace with another built in wardrobe. My customer decided to get a professional decorator in to hand paint them.
After a little bit of guidance from myself, my customer decided to go for Farrow and Ball’s Inchrya Blue No.289. I recommended this colour as i have used it many times, with fantastic results each time. Farrow and Ball describe this colour as follows;
This aged blue grey is inspired by the naturally dramatic Scottish skies that act as a backdrop for the classic Georgian Inchyra House. It can be found on the exterior doors of their very impressive byre or barn which nestles at the bottom of a rather grey and imposing brae (also known as a hill). Such is the magic of our colours, this moody hue can read more grey, blue or even green depending on the light. A great alternative to charcoal, use it to inject a hint of colour into a super contemporary home or create a dark and intimate feel by combining it with Black Blue or Vardo.
The Decorating process behind this project was quite a quick and clean. I achieved this finish by using a dustless sander set up. By using this set up it allowed me to use correct preparation in a clean and tidy manner.
The second step, after cleaning down the surfaces was to use a decent adhesion primer. I use one of the best available on the uk market. By using this product I can ensure that the top coats I use will stick like shit to a blanket.
The third and forth steps, minus de-nibbing between coats, was to apply the top coat i had chosen, tinted to the Farrow and Ball colour the customer had chosen.
The final step was to dust and back and appreciate the finished product. After a quick clean up, removing tape and sheets i haded over to the customer and they were amazed at the quality of the finish, this is down to using the best products available and the best tools.
