I’m Rob Greenwood, a City & Guilds qualified painter and decorator working throughout Skipton, Craven and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales.

Since 2017, I’ve worked on everything from contemporary homes and bespoke kitchens to country properties and centuries-old buildings, combining traditional decorating skills with modern materials and specialist spray finishes.

For me, good decorating isn’t simply about putting a new colour on a wall. It’s about understanding the room, the materials and the character of the property, then creating a finish that feels as though it belongs there.

Decorating with respect for the building

Every property is different.

A newly fitted kitchen calls for a different approach to an old timber door. A country house shouldn’t necessarily be treated in the same way as a contemporary apartment.

That’s a part of decorating I particularly enjoy.

I work carefully with existing features, traditional woodwork and period details, while using modern preparation methods and high-quality coatings where they offer a better finish.

The result should never shout about the decorator.

It should simply look right.

Painting & Decorating

I provide interior and exterior painting and decorating for private homes and selected commercial properties throughout Skipton and the surrounding area.

Preparation is at the heart of my work. From dustless sanding and careful repairs to choosing the correct primers and finishes, I take the time to create a finish that not only looks good when the job is completed, but continues to look good afterwards.

Whether it’s a single room or a larger property, you’ll deal directly with me from quotation through to completion.

Period & Character Properties

Older buildings often need a little more thought.

Original timber, traditional mouldings, historic surfaces and years of previous decoration all tell part of the story of a property.

Where appropriate, I favour sympathetic preparation and restoration rather than simply replacing or covering original features. I enjoy preserving the character that makes an older property distinctive while giving it the considered finish expected of a well-kept home.

It’s an approach that has taken me from traditional cottages and rural properties to the careful decoration and restoration of buildings several centuries old.

Kitchens, Furniture & Specialist Spray Finishing

Alongside traditional painting and decorating, I offer specialist spray and hand-painted finishes for kitchens, fitted furniture, wardrobes, cabinetry and bespoke joinery.

Depending on the project, items can be prepared and sprayed in my dedicated spray booth, helping to create a smooth, durable finish while reducing disruption within your home.

I also work alongside kitchen makers, joiners and other specialist trades on bespoke interior projects.

A personal service

RG Decorating is intentionally a small business.

When you invite somebody into your home, particularly for a project lasting several days or weeks, I think knowing who you’re dealing with matters.

From the first conversation and quotation to preparation, decorating and the final coat, I remain personally involved in the work.

Where a larger project requires additional tradespeople, I work with a small number of trusted professionals whose standards I know and trust.

I also make an effort to reduce unnecessary dust, fumes and disruption, using dust extraction, modern water-based coatings and lower-solvent products wherever they are appropriate for the job.
